Delgaudio presents petitions against a secret homosexual agenda, known to him alone, to corrupt our children’s innocence
You would think out of sheer self-preservation the Loudoun County Republican Party would have concluded long ago that the time had come to stop renominating Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) for elective office, given that his day job is making up stuff about the imminent takeover of the nation by “radical homosexuals.”
Delgaudio’s extremely lucrative business, which personally earns him more than $150,000 a year (not even counting the free county-paid staff time he misused to run it) is to stage ludicrous theatrical stunts in which he publicizes his “discoveries” about secret gay conspiracies (“The Radical Homosexuals infiltrating the United States Congress have a plan: Indoctrinate an entire generation of American children with pro-homosexual propaganda and eliminate traditional values from American society”) and urging those on his mailing lists (compiled by county paid staffers) to donate money to him so he can . . . stage more theatrical stunts to generate more donations.
You might also think that Delgaudio himself, currently under investigation for misappropriation of public funds and staff time, might lie low. But he was at it again the other day, posing in front of the U.S. Capitol with a pile of boxes which he claimed contained “one million” petitions he had collected to “defend children’s innocence” by opposing the “Homosexual Classrooms Act,” a piece of legislation that exists only in Eugene’s own mind.
As always with Delgaudio, things got stranger in a hurry. Delgaudio publicly thanked the Rotary Club for helping to collect these one million signatures. But the Rotary Club, contacted by a blogger, denied any involvement with the effort, and in fact issued a complete disavowal of Delgaudio’s offensive views:
“Thanks for making us aware of this. ‘Protect Our Children’s Innocence’ isn’t involved or associated with Rotary International. We’re committed to non-discrimination, and our bylaws prohibit Rotary clubs from denying membership to individuals based on ‘gender, race, color, creed, national origin or sexual orientation’ and from partnering with organizations that practice discrimination. We’re non-political and we don’t oppose or endorse political campaigns, candidates, and positions at any level, including proposed legislation. No specific Rotary clubs were mentioned in the video, and we’re not aware of any clubs involved with this organization.”
Loudoun Board Chairman Scott York (R), who concealed evidence of Delgaudio’s abuse of staff and misappropriation of funds for six months before turning it over to prosecutors last year only after the Washington Post broke the story, sanctimoniously declared that the Board could not “fire” Delgaudio, who had been duly elected by the people of Sterling. But any elected official on a national level who carried on the way Eugene has would have been urged to resign in a heartbeat by the grownups in his own party. And of course the fact remains that the local GOP party apparatus are the ones who keep nominating him to run — there are no primary elections where voters get a say. It’s time for York & Co. to stop ducking responsibility, take a moral stance like a man, and denounce Delgaudio’s appalling lies, finagling of public funds, and divisive politics, and urge him to resign.
If the Rotary Club can disavow Eugene in no uncertain terms, how about his fellow members of the all-Republican Loudoun Board of Supervisors? But that would require actually doing something courageous.
